“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
There is something about the brightness and warmth of the summertime that make us think of life and new beginnings. Summer is when flowers are in full bloom, when we hang out with friends, when vacations happen and when there is potential for change. This is exactly the view of Nick Carraway as he is walking through West Egg in Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The winter is over, springtime is passed, and who knows what will happen in the summer. (If you’ve read the novel, you know that quite a lot does happen!)

This reminds me of Psalm 1.
