“And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
For this week I chose one of the most famous lines in all of literature, picked from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. In my personal opinion, one of the most well-written books of all time. This particular quote summarizes the thinking and life of character Jay Gatsby, who is always seeking to return to his past and relive a life that is out of his reach now. For many others, I think, the quote is true as well. Always believing that another time is better than our present condition, we are often trying to go back to a time in which we believe we were happier, although, as Nick Carraway tells Gatsby, “You can’t repeat the past.”
